Need A Wedding Dress Just Turned 50 But Look 35 Or So
I am in the blue in the center
My boyfriend of 4.5 years proposed on Saturday and I am so excited! He threw me a surprise 50th party and made a lovely video of my life before him and then our life together (unbeknownst to me!) and at the end asked me to marry him ... I am 5'4" and am a size 8, with a curvy body, but very much in proportion.
We want a beach wedding, very informal, and then a huge party afterwards. We have both been married before so don't want all the formality. I do want to wear a wedding dress, but not fancy and very flattering. Not sure which route to go, and I will admit that I do like to have a little sexiness involved. If you've got it flaunt it, I believe. But, with class. Any suggestions?
Congrats on your engagement! What a nice engagement story! So now comes the task of looking for a wedding dress.
From the way you described your personality and your wedding setting, you would probably like an informal wedding dress. Most wedding dress designers call these gowns "destination wedding dresses" in their collections.
What is nice about these gowns it that they don't have long trains to fuss with. They usually have sweep trains or no train at all.
Designers also make these casual wedding dresses in fabrics that are carefree. They use fabrics like polyester chiffon and Georgette, that flow and don't wrinkle easily.
A good thing about the "destination wedding gown collections" is that the designs are more like stylish evening gowns, but done in white or ivory.
Besides the strapless neckline, you can think about wearing a halter neckline or a sleeveless dress with a deep V-neck front and low back. The one shoulder dress is trendy right now.
Right now short wedding dresses and tea length wedding gowns are popular.
The styles I have suggested above are not what most women over 50 would feel comfortable in, but because you have a youthful look and personality, I feel you will be able to wear those styles well!
One more place you can check besides the popular wedding dress designer's lines would be the department stores like, Dillards, Macy's, Bloomingdales, etc... Most of these stores only sell gowns in their online stores. Also check out designer wedding dresses by J. Crew, eDressme, and Nicole Miller.
