Many couples are finding this to be a fun and effective way to get the word out to friends and family when announcing their wedding.

You can send save the date information in the form of an announcement card or send wedding save the date magnets.

Save the date cards and magnets are sent out to those you plan to invite to attend your wedding.

It not only informs your guest of your wedding, but also serves as a reminder for them.

One thing to note... Not everyone on your guest list need to get one of these.

You should send save the date announcements to guest when the following circumstances apply...

  • You have out of town guests.
  • If you are having a destination wedding and your guest are invited to join you.
  • If your wedding is taking place around a holiday since traveling during that time will take more planning.
  • If you live in a tourist or vacation destination, it may be hard to find flights and accommodations since these book up early. Your guests will need to plan early.

For those guest that are traveling from a far distance to attend your wedding, ideally you want to give them 9 to 12 months advance notice. But no less than 4 to 6 months before the invitations go out.

If you are having a destination wedding you should send out your save the date cards or magnets 12 months or more before the wedding. This gives everyone time to prepare for and save for the traveling expenses in order for all of your guests to attend.

So that your guests don't confuse the save the date card for your invitation... you want to include the words " Invitation to follow" or "Invitations and details to follow" at the bottom of the card.

What does save the date etiquette say should be included on the invite? Make sure to put your names, the wedding date, and the place it will take place is on the save the date magnets or cards. It you have a wedding website you can include this information also.

If you have the information available, send hotel accommodations, airline information and car rental information to simplify the planning process for your guests.
