Wedding Dress Advice Needed

I am getting married in early October outdoors. I am in my early 50's. (3rd marriage) I have a very large bust and a large belly. I also do not think my arm area is attractive. I want to enhance my face, hair and bust with my dress as these features are quite lovely. I want a Celtic feel to my dress. (ethereal type) Weather in my region could be warm or slightly cooler. I am hoping for an early morning wedding. (10 AM) I do plan to lose 15 pounds between now and then and get some toning done with exercise.

Hi Sudahli,

I know finding a wedding dress for your body shape and one that is age appropriate can be a challenge. But I think these tips can give you a place to start from:

Go for necklines that are v-neck, sweetheart or scooped. One neckline I feel will work for the Celtic wedding dress style, is the off the shoulder style paired with a long poet sleeve in chiffon fabric. This styling will bring the attention upward, which is what you want, and having sleeves will take away attention from your arms.

Any ethereal wedding dress type would be made in a light and airy fabric, like chiffon and organza in polyester or silk, because these fabrics drape the body beautifully without adding volume. Lightweight cottons voile, lightweight batiste and gauze will work for an informal wedding with and eco-friendly, plus are comfortable to wear.

Choose a wedding gown with sleeves if you are not a fan of your upper arms. Make sure they are not tight fitted or short cap sleeves when you have heavy upper arms. Empire waist and some drop waist styles are dress silhouettes to try. As long as your stomach doesn't protrude further than your bust, then the empire waist will not give that dreaded "pregnant look." But of course, buying the right shapewear can fix that. Asymmetrical details on the front of the dress, and overlays with split fronts, can detract attention from the midsection.
